Arctic Cat Riot 858

Arctic Cat is Back!

In April 2025, Arctic Cat was acquired from Textron by a private investment group and former Arctic Cat executive and Argo President Brad Darling.

The acquisition saved Arctic Cat and breathed new life into the brand.

Since then, Arctic Cat has been investing heavily in their machines, determined to earn back their market share.

The Arctic Cat Difference

What differentiates Arctic Cat from its competitors? Here are some core differences…

Power steering: An absolute game changer in that it reduces rider fatigue and makes riding so much more enjoyable. Available on most trail models like the ZR 600 and 858.

Catalyst chassis: Utilizes a tooth belt drive system that eliminates a chain case resulting in smooth, quiet and extremely low maintenance drive system. Eliminating an oil filled chain case also reduces weight. This chassis is available on 2-stroke machines.

Yamaha 998cc turbo engine: With Yamaha leaving the snowmobile space in 2025, Arctic Cat, who built the Yamaha machines since 2014, has continued the production of the ProCross chassis machines (Thundercat) with the famous 998cc turbo Yamaha engine.

Arctic Cat Highlights

  • Catalyst Chassis is lightweight and smooth.
  • 600 CTEC and 858 CTEC 2-stroke engines are very powerful and dominate in performance against competitors similar size 2-strokes.
  • Tooth belt drive system is simple, eliminates chain case or gear case, reduces weight, reduces noise and vibration noticeably.
  • Power steering is a game changer and at the time of this update, not offered by any competitor.
  • Optional G8 display is made by Garmin who is an industry leader in GPS and Navigation.
  • C&A pro ski’s standard on some performance trail machines.  C&A pro skis are industry leading and often bought as an aftermarket upgrade for other makes.

My Experience with Arctic Cat

My 2025-26 snowmobile season saw me riding almost 6,000 km of trails on the Arctic Cat Catalyst chassis with power steering.

I’ve been riding snowmobiles for 35+ years and been a loyal Ski-Doo rider for the last 10.

However, after 6,000 km of “seat time” on the Arctic Cat, I can honestly say the Catalyst chassis has won me over. It’s smooth, reliable and handles the brute power of the machine with ease. And I was really grateful for the power steering on those long rides… it really makes the overall riding experience so much more enjoyable.

Based on my experience, the resurrected Arctic Cat is winner. The competition has some real competition now!
